Meet Stacy, the Mind Behind Three Little Birds
Who we are and what we do
Stacy’s love of food and cooking began in Kindergarten when one of the classroom moms came in to help each child make a miniature loaf of bread for their mom for Mother’s Day. Mesmerized by the transformation of simple ingredients into a warm, tasty treat, she was hooked and a life-long passion for food and cooking was born.
Home Economics classes in Junior High and High School inspired her to enroll in Culinary School at Schoolcraft College when she was just 17. Her passion for her craft was evident to mentors and colleagues and she won awards and local press attention for her achievements.
After working for several years as a professional pastry chef and also a PR & Marketing manager for Whole Foods Market, she was recruited to launch a recreational cooking school for people who are looking for more than what a cookbook or demonstration-style class would have to offer.
An incredible experience helping others, but she craved more and was on the hunt for her next move as a gourmet Stacy also found herself running to stay fit and in typical “take it to the next level” form, became a spin instructor. That experience only helped her continued education as a chef with a more formal understanding that staying fit was equal parts exercise and clean eating.
She always enjoyed granola but realized most products on the shelf were nothing more than a ground up cookie – so she made her own! Initially a hobby, she shared her new kitchen delight with friends and colleagues and was quickly encouraged to start making it in larger servings to sell to Detroit-area businesses. Now lugging around 10lb. bags to hotels and country clubs, Stacy was now a part of the world of Institutional Food Sales.
The game changed in 2011 when a friend from Culinary School reached out and encouraged her to connect with Betti Wiggins, a childhood nutrition advocate and one of the foremost leaders and voices for clean eating in the scholastic food service industry.
Now driven to get her product into Detroit area schools, after a year of hard work, Stacy became a vendor with US Foods. Competing with the corporate category leaders, she eventually learned she needed to package her product in 1oz bags for schools and the packaging we enjoy Three Little Birds in today, was born.
After Three Little Birds was in Detroit Schools for 3 years, requests for her product were starting to be roll in. Somewhat of a perfectionist, she wanted to grow slowly to ensure that as we grew, we didn’t compromise quality. After proving the concept by supplying DPS with 1.5 M servings, she felt confident in our ability to serve new clients without faltering.
When you love what you do and believe in your product, it’s simply a passion with a purpose. Our recipe for success is humility, gratefulness and intention, and with those values, TLB continues to grow. Stacy hopes that you’re never more than one meal or snack away from Three Little Birds Granola!
